Va Medical Center, Portland OR

Scope of Work:
Design a fire alarm system upgrade for an existing high-rise structure with mixed use of business, utility, and predominantly health care.
The structure is an existing nine –(9) story high-rise with two –(2) levels of basement. Each of the nine above grade levels has an extensive mezzanine level over each one.
The following were significant considerations of the design:
- Create design that would allow upgrade while not impacting active health-care operations, and yet simultaneously allow use of existing fire alarm system infrastructure.
- Create an evacuation system design compliant with current Veterans Administration standards, while preserving the time and money invested in the local site’s training and response operations.
- Integrate the new system with the previously upgraded Building Management System, which also provides smoke control functionality.
- Creation of accurate “Record Drawings” to allow new system design compliant with National Fire Standards.
- Optimization of existing signal conduit to create fiber optic backbone for campus network.
Status:Complete.
